This month we have a slew of new products: three new soaps and a new mask!
First up is the brand new From Scratch Salt Soap. This was built from a customer’s suggestion; a large, national brand had discontinued a similar soap. Christine found the ingredient list online and developed a new recipe! from a customer. We’re no strangers to Himalayan sea salt in soap; it has amazing properties to detox the skin and exfoliate. While that was the purpose in the past, this bar is different. In this soap, salt helps to balance your skin’s pH to make it softer and smoother. If you have hard water, this might be the perfect soap for you! This is also our very first From Scratch soap to contain glycerin! Derived from vegetable fats and considered kosher, the glycerin we use is a clear, colorless, odorless, and syrupy liquid with a sweet taste. Glycerin helps your skin retain the moisture that is there. This soap features a great new essential oil blend of lemongrass, orange, and spearmint essential oils. It’s a bright and beautiful blend, right when we need it most in the doldrums of February. Here’s why you will find these oils uplifting:
Lemongrass: promotes a positive outlook and heightened awareness with a refreshing and clear aroma
Orange (Sweet): eases the feelings of sadness and worry; often used in blends for motivation
Spearmint: relieves feeling of stress and uplift your mind; great for focus
Next up for February is our From Scratch Tiger Soap. Some of you may remember this soap from 2020. We made it in our Life of a Soapmaker group during lockdown when “Tiger King” was all the rage. The soap and its ingredients were a great concept, but the combinations of fats and quantity and volume of some of the ingredients lead to a lot of seizing loaves, and many batches went into the garbage. We had to shelve this product for a while, during which Christine came up with a better formulation that makes great soap every single time. This new formulation still has all of your favorite additives: annatto seed powder, turmeric, orange mica, and charcoal. Like a tiger’s stripes, the bars are all unique in their own way. The scent is very similar, but it is now a blend of orange essential oil and a beautiful natural fragrance oil that contains the spicy features of cinnamon, clove, and ginger.
The other new soap releasing this month is our From Scratch Sniffles Soap! Sniffles is an HD Exclusive Essential Oil Blend, made of eucalyptus, peppermint, and fir essential oils. While we’ve offered a wide variety of Sniffles-infused products before, this is the first time we’re making a From Scratch soap with this specific combination of essential oils. This soap is rich and hydrating, and the addition of our Sniffles oils makes it the perfect soap to keep around through cold and flu season (and beyond!).
Lastly is our brand new Ashwagandha & Dandelion Dry Mask! These two ingredients are brand new for HD Soap. Ashwagandha is trendy right now in supplements. When Christine researched it, she realized it would make a wonderful mask. It helps produce natural oils, in addition to helping moisturize your skin. It keeps your skin feeling supple and hydrated. Dandelion may not be as flashy, but it has always been around as an ingredient in natural skincare. Dandelion powder has cleansing, detoxing, toning, and astringent properties; it can help with itchy skin and to fight fine lines and wrinkles. Dandelion root powder is an excellent source of vitamins (A, E, B-complex, to name a few) and minerals (iron, calcium, potassium, and so many more!).
