HD’s Top Five: From Scratch Soap

We thought it would be fun to do a series on the top five products that people are buying this year!

It is always interesting to see how our classic HD Soap products compare to our new releases! Follow along with these next few blog posts to see if your favorite products rank in the top five!

Today we will start with our From Scratch Soap! What does “From Scratch” mean? It is a product that we make from start to finish in house. All From Scratch soaps are made using the cold process soapmaking method. Cold process soapmaking involves mixing fats and acids together to form soap through the process of saponification.

Our Top Five Favorite From Scratch Soaps
1. Activated Charcoal
The best-selling From Scratch soap is the Activated Charcoal. This soap provides excellent cleansing, detoxifies your skin, and absorbs excess oil. Customers with oily, blemish-prone skin have found relief with this soap, and part of the reason is because of the ingredients!  You can read more about those ingredients on the blog.

2. Shaving Soap
Do you have sensitive skin? Do you get razor burn? Do you hate shaving so frequently? If so, our From Scratch Shaving Soap might be your answer! Why should you try it? It’s great for both men and women, is very moisturizing, and cuts down on razor burn. You’ll also experience fewer ingrown hairs and a closer shave (this means less frequent shaving!).

3. Salt Soap
We’re no strangers to Himalayan sea salt in soap; it has amazing properties that exfoliate and detox skin. While that was the purpose in the past, this bar is different. In the From Scratch Salt Soap, salt helps to balance your skin’s pH to make it softer and smoother. If you have hard water, this might be the perfect soap for you!

4. Black Cherry Suede
The creamy tan part of the soap provides fine exfoliation from its pumice powder. The brown part of the soap is colored with beet powder and can actually tighten your skin while also improving your skin’s elasticity. It can also minimize the appearance of your pores and dark spots on your skin. The deep reddish color is from rose kaolin clay! This was added for anyone who may need the oils in their skin more balanced. This soap contains red or “rose” kaolin clay. It is great for detoxifying your skin and is one of the best clays if you have a blemish-prone complexion. This soap absorbs deep into the epidermis layer of your skin and removes excess oil without over-drying. This means it is great for combination or oily skin!  While this soap is no longer in stock, it will be back in the winter of 2023.

5. Goat’s Milk Honey and Oats
Honey has anti-inflammatory properties, which is always good news for those who struggle with breakouts, itchy skin, or even a sunburn. Some even use it to help fight the signs of aging and keep a youthful glow since it’s loaded with antioxidants. It even has some moisturizing benefits, since it helps your skin draw moisture from the air and retain it. The anti-inflammatory property of oatmeal is also beneficial to those who suffer from dry or irritated skin. Oatmeal has a very low pH, which is very calming to red, inflamed, sensitive skin. Because of its natural emollient properties, oats also act as a moisturizer and a gentle exfoliator to help remove dead, dry skin.
