Do you know why toner is an important part of your skincare routine?
Toner helps clean out the final traces of dirt and grime left behind after washing your face. This means that if you have oily or blemish-prone skin, toners are even more important! Clean pores mean smaller pores, which means tighter skin. Tighter skin means you can say goodbye to saggy, aging skin. If you are feeling tired or need a quick cleanse, a toner can substitute for washing your face in a pinch.
Another reason you should use a toner is because it helps balance the pH level of your skin, which is naturally acidic. Normally skin is around a 5 or 6 on the scale of 0-14, but soaps are alkaline; when you wash your face, a toner can help balance it back out. If your body tries to balance it without a toner, your skin will naturally want to produce more oil; using a toner means your body won’t need to produce extra oil.
Toners also protect your skin. When you cleanse your skin and then tone, the pores tighten; this means that dirt, impurities, and contaminants can’t penetrate into the skin. Many toners also act as moisturizers and are even humectants, which means it draws water from the air into your skin.
HD Soap offers three different types of toners! We have our original Sage Toner, our Relax Toner that came out in 2019, and the Sage Toner with Tea Tree that we released this fall. Try one or all three! Many of our customers use at least two: one in the morning and one at night.
