Hemp seed oil may be new to some of you; keep reading to see why we started using it in several of our products, and why you will want to add this ingredient to your skincare routine!
First of all, the hemp plant is not to be confused with the cannabis plant; they are two completely different plants (think of them as cousins). Cannabis is generally used for medicinal and therapeutic properties and is where marijuana comes from, while hemp contains no THC at all and has a wide variety of uses including rope, paper, clothing, insulation, and more. Hemp oil is used in cooking, skincare and beauty products, and even paint! It is also not the same as our THC-free CBD oil, which comes from the plant, not the seeds.
In its purest form, hemp seed oil has a green tint and a warm, nutty scent. It is made by pressing hemp seeds extracted from the hemp plant through a cold-press method, similar to the process of making olive oil. It is an excellent moisturizer that doesn’t clog pores, plus it possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties; this makes it a natural choice for skincare and beauty products. Some companies, like HD Soap, add the oil to their products, but hemp seed oil can also be put directly on the skin.
This oil is packed with vitamins, minerals, in addition to three important polyunsaturated fatty acids, two important omega fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6), and all nine amino acids that your body needs to make protein. These nutrients, as well as its anti-inflammatory properties, help to relieve a variety of skin issues; try using it to relieve dry, itchy skin, breakouts, or to help soothe any irritation.
Hemp seed oil may even help relieve tight muscles thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. Some apply the oil, or a product containing this oil, directly on the muscle or area where they are experiencing discomfort. Since it can be used as a carrier oil for essential oils, you could even add in a few drops of other anti-inflammatory oils, such as peppermint essential oil, for even more pain relief.
